MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum welcomes you to come and see the film-screening exhibition Watch and Chill: Streaming Art to Your Homes, a collection of works from four prestigious museums across Asia, curated in collaboration with the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, in Seoul, the Contemporary Art and Design Museum in Manila, and the M+ West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong. This alliance between numerous museums serves as an experiment, offering a new method of experiencing art exhibitions from the comfort of your home, made possible in this digital day and age where everything exists in a virtual online world. Meanwhile, this program also offers an alternative avenue for audiences to come spend time together within an art space. A total of 23 films will be screened on a rotation in an outdoor theater, specially constructed for this exhibition.

Each piece has been selected based on 4 sub-topics: “Things in My Living Room” presents items from the home and scenes of their placement, arrangement, and circulation. Looking beyond the relationships among objects, the artists broaden their sense to encompass relationships between object and people and between objects and society. “By the Other Being” reflects on the physical and mental aspects of the home as a safe haven, being influenced by the interventions and intrusions of other beings. It shows those who share our time and space of the everyday-such as partners, animals, plants, robots, guests, and intruders-as it weaves a fictional narrative around them. “Community of Houses” proposes alternative forms of living together that differ from the traditional communities of neighbors. Presented here are the changes in environment experienced by communities of various regions, generations, and typologies, along with the different forms of living that emerge as they adapt in their own ways. “Meta-Home” focuses on “homes beyond homes,” i.e., the hyper-connectivity of our domestic spaces. It reveals varied forms of metaphysical imagination, including homes connected with the visual world as well as mental and spiritual connections that transcend technological ones.

All videos in the screening program are available via Watch and Chill, a free subscription-based art streaming platform (https://watchandchill.kr/). The Watch and Chill streaming service will continue through to February 2022, while the physical exhibition will travel to M+ Hong Kong in January 2022.
