While working on very large abstract artworks, Lamphun based artist Phattharakorn (Natthawut) Sing-Thong began to paint en plein air in the shade of the longan trees that surround his studio. This choice allowed him to move from small to big size linen canvases providing a new direction and meaning in his artistic practice that he was searching for without really being able to name it, define it or make it visible. One day, during a very heavy downpour, the rain fell on one of his unfinished canvases which was forgotten outside. While frustrated at first, thinking of his wasted artwork, he was amazed by this fortuitous accident that appeared on his canvas. What he had in front of him was obviously what he was looking for but could not accomplish directly with his own hands. Though skillfully accomplished in his own right, having studied at Ubon Ratchathani Vocational College and after receiving a bachelor/Master degree at the Faculty of Fine arts of Chiang Mai University, this new and indirect painting method aligned perfectly with his Buddhist beliefs and his understanding of the Karma.
